MANTANANI ISLAND – RASA SAYANG MANTANANI RESORT
The Mantanani Islands (“美人鱼岛”) form a small group of three islands off the north-west coast of the state of Sabah, Malaysia, opposite the town of Kota Belud, in northern Borneo. About an hour-and-a-half drive from the state capital of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, these islands are approximately 60 minutes boat-ride by speedboat from the mainland, depending on sea conditions.
The largest island is Mantanani Besar; the other two are Mantanani Kecil and Lungisan. It is a popular site for recreational diving as there are three nearby dive wrecks dating from the World War II, as well as being known for its dugongs or sea cows that reside around the island. Dugong sightings are not guaranteed as these mammals are very shy and will distance themselves from noise and crowds.
Rasa Sayang Mantanani Resort is located on Pulau Mantanani Besar with three categories of rooms available – Double Bedroom, Twin Sharing Bedroom, and Triple Bedroom. All rooms come with an attached bathroom and hot water showers are available during the island’s regular electricity supply time. Besides that, the resort is also equipped with lighting, socket points, and air-conditioning.
The surroundings of the island are covered with a stretch of beach. Guests may enjoy walking along the beach, but note that the island’s electricity supply is only available from 2:00pm to 9:00am daily. The Resort is connected to the outside world by telephone and internet through Hotlink SIM card (own arrangement). Wi-Fi internet connection is available at the restaurant area only when the electricity supply is on. Snacks, beverages and some basic items are available for purchase at the Manta Shop.
