On July 18, 2025, Datuk Christina Liew, Chairman of the Sabah-Malaysia My Second Home (SABAH-MM2H) Programme, lauded registered agents for their efforts in promoting the programme, which saw a rise in the number of applications from foreign nationals, especially from China, Taiwan, and other nations.
During a meeting with the 25 registered agents on Thursday, Liew, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, urged agents to continue spreading the word about the programme through international roadshows and other promotional channels.
“We look forward to more foreign applicants buying property here and considering Sabah as their second home,” she stated.
Additionally, Liew took the opportunity to brief the agents on the latest amendments to the Sabah-MM2H policy that had been approved by the State Cabinet. One noteworthy move includes lowering the applicants’ minimum age requirement from 30 to 25 years old. Moreover, successful candidates can now use any of the 12 approved commercial banks to make their mandatory fixed deposits. Furthermore, they are also allowed to withdraw up to 50% of the deposit for medical or educational costs after a 12-month period.
The agents largely approved of these changes, expressing optimism that the updated requirements would attract more candidates and increase interest in the program.
Liew acknowledged a few concerns raised by the agents, particularly those pertaining to the categorisation of buildings that qualify for the programme purchase.
“We will review and discuss these at our next monthly meeting and keep you updated,” assures Liew while further stating that the Sabah-MM2H Committee is still processing and accepting international applications efficiently.
Among those present at the meeting were Datuk Josie Lai, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and other members of the State Sabah-MM2H Committee.

The Sabah-MM2H offers a renewable 5+5 year Social Visit Pass.
Property Ownership:
Participants are required to purchasing high-rise properties with minimum RM600,000 purchase price.
Dependents:
The program allows participants to bring their dependents to reside in Sabah: Spouse, parents-in-law, and children (including adopted children/ stepchildren) below 21 years of age.
Fixed Deposit:
Individual: RM150,000
Family: RM300,000
*Withdrawal allowed for up to 40% after 2 years
Income:
Proof of income (3 months) for individuals, RM10,000 per month, and for family, RM15,000 per month.
Minimum Stay Requirement:
Participants need to meet a minimum stay requirement of 30 days per calendar year to be eligible for visa renewal.
