Are you dreaming of turquoise water and snorkeling? If yes, then you will enjoy the islands in Kota Kinabalu!

You might think that you’d need to go on a long, arduous boat ride in order to get to the idyllic island of your dreams, but there are actually a handful of them that will take you no more than 15 minutes to reach. Clear blue waters, a diversity of marine life and snorkeling possibilities, lush vegetation and tasty meals… the list goes on. If these things are on your list, you will definitely enjoy Dream Catcher Island @ Mari Mari Sepanggar Island.

The island is an idyllic beach resort set by the hills of a primary rainforest fronted by white sandy beaches; with a spectacular view of Gaya Bay, Likas Bay, Sepanggar Bay, the South China Sea, Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, and Kota Kinabalu City. It is a great place for the beach lovers and swimmers.

Water Sports and Activities

Activities include banana boating, kayaks, jet skis, and other water sports and activities as you set foot on the beach from the jetty. So get your snorkel gears if you love snorkeling!

For adventurous ones who with no experience underwater, sea walking allows you to admire the amazing marine life up close and personal – giving you the opportunity to literally walk under the sea! You will be suited up in a full wetsuit, boots, and gloves and then taken by tender out to the sea walking platform. This would be perfect for family travellers too!

Want to experience scuba diving, but don’t have a license? Then PADI’s Discover Scuba Dive could be for you! This is a half day program, designed for beginners. For licensed divers, head to the jetty then submerge yourself in a thriving and vibrant underwater world. There are over eight dive sites around the island for underwater enthusiasts to explore such as Tanjung Lagoon, South Point, Pacang Point, and more. So, gear up and jump in!

Take a walk along the white sandy beach and take the boardwalk up the hill as high as 200 meters to the South Peak (highest peak of the island) and be mesmerised by the vista, the scents, and sounds of the rainforest. Be humbled by the giants trees, ferns, and rattan growing along the trail as you listen to the bird calls and buzz of the inhabitants of the jungle.

Staying overnight

Stay the night in a chalet on the hill or by the beach as you watch the Kota Kinabalu City light up in the distance as night falls. You can enjoy the soothing sounds of waves crashing on the beach while sitting at the balcony sipping perhaps a glass of wine or fizzy cider.
