    • Terrain: The trail primarily consists of flat stretches, which makes for comfortable running, especially at the beginning. However, as you progress toward Mount Lucia, expect some steep sections that will truly test your endurance and agility.
    • Natural Beauty: One of the most captivating aspects of this trail is its pristine surroundings. You’ll find yourself immersed in a tropical rainforest, surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna. Towering trees provide shade and a serene backdrop, making this run a feast for the senses.
    • Wildlife Encounters: Keep your eyes peeled as you might be lucky enough to spot various wildlife species. • Weather Awareness: Tropical rainforests can be unpredictable, so be ready for sudden changes in weather.
    • Wildlife Etiquette: While wildlife sightings can be exciting, maintain a respectful distance and do not disturb the animals. Always prioritize your safety.
    • Leech Protection: Use leech repellent to prevent leeches from attaching to you.

B) 6KM Trails to the Sulphurous Springs

Trail Condition:
The Tawau Hills Park trail offers a diverse terrain that keeps runners engaged throughout the course. It begins with a relatively flat path that gradually transitions into more challenging sections. While some parts of the trail are smooth and easy to navigate, be prepared for areas that are steep and slippery. It’s essential to wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution in these sections.

Scenic Highlights:
One of the most remarkable features of this trail is its location near the Tawau Hills Park sulphureous hot spring. As you run through the forest, you’ll be surrounded by pristine wilderness, providing you with a unique opportunity to connect with nature. If you’re lucky, you might spot some of the park’s diverse wildlife, including gibbons, redleaf monkeys, barking deer, samba deer, hornbills, various bird species, wild boars, and more. Keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready for these incredible encounters.

Natural Wonders:
As you make your way through the trail, you’ll also pass by a meandering river, providing a refreshing break and a chance to soak in the sights and sounds of flowing water. Additionally, you might encounter some friendly leeches along the way, which are an integral part of the rainforest ecosystem. Tall and majestic trees will tower over you, creating a canopy that adds to the enchantment of this run.

Out and Back Trail:
The Tawau Hills Park trail is an out-and-back route, covering a total of 6 kilometres. The first 3 kilometres lead you uphill, offering a rewarding challenge for those seeking a physical workout. The return journey, which is also 3 kilometres, allows you to retrace your steps and experience the trail from a different perspective. Keep in mind that the total distance may vary slightly due to the natural contours of the trail.

A Message for Trail Runners:
This 6KM Trail Run at Tawau Hills Park is all about immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. It’s not a race to the finish line; instead, it’s an opportunity to savour the rainforest’s wonders at your own pace. Take breaks, capture breath-taking moments, and appreciate the serenity that only a tropical rainforest can offer. Be mindful of the environment, stay safe, and cherish the memories created during this fun and awe-inspiring trail run.
