Vibrant lights, energetic performances, and unforgettable vibes. These reasons capture why Lampoopalooza remains one of the most exciting events in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Lampoopalooza goer, this guide covers everything you need to know – from the lineup and what to expect, to how to prepare, what to bring, and how to make the most of your day!
What to Expect at Lampoopalooza

Lampoopalooza is Sabah’s annual celebration of light, art, music, and food, and it takes over Gaya Street in the most magical way. Hosted by the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), the festival turns an ordinary evening into something worth lingering for.
What started as a one-off celebration for the STB building’s 100th anniversary in 2018 has since grown into a much-loved yearly tradition.
As night falls, the STB building becomes a glowing canvas, lit up with dazzling projections inspired by Sabah’s natural beauty, rich heritage, and diverse cultures. It’s the kind of sight that makes you stop mid-walk just to stare.
Add live performances by local artists, and suddenly you’re staying longer than planned, soaking in the music, the atmosphere, and the energy of the crowd.
Over the years, Lampoopalooza has evolved into a lively community gathering, giving STB a platform to spotlight local creativity, bring people together, and shine a brighter light on Kota Kinabalu as a cultural and tourism hub.
Lampoopalooza Activities
Apart from the light show at the building and the performances, you also get to enjoy the following:
- Recycled & eco-friendly art installations
- Glow art exhibition
- Vendors by local entrepreneurs & artisans
Art installations

Last year, this installation was called the “Circles of Lights,” which are swings shaped like circles of light. It was a fun, interactive moment where people could come sit on the light displays and take photos with loved ones.
Glow art exhibition

Tucked in a separate tent right next to the STB building, these glow-in-the-dark artworks were painted by local artists. These one-of-a-kind pieces are often gifted to rural schools, bringing the spirit of art and creativity to communities across Sabah.
Vendors by local entrepreneurs & artisans

Thirsty, hungry, or itching for some shopping? You’re covered. Each year, F&B businesses and artisans show up in support of the event, thanks to the Sabah Tourism Board’s collaboration with local hoteliers, brands, and creatives who bring their products and services to the spotlight.
