Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – The Sabah Creative Economy Summit 2025 spotlighted youth voices by giving a platform to SYNC: Sabah Youth Network for Creatives, to share their vision for a vibrant and inclusive creative future in the state.
With the tagline “By Creatives, For Creatives,” SYNC unites emerging talents across film, design, music, visual arts, performance, and more. Their mission: to amplify youth voices, advocate for creative rights, and strengthen cross-sector collaboration.
At the summit, SYNC shared its commitment to mentorship, cultural inclusion, and sustainability in the arts—framing creativity as essential to shaping identity, economy, and community resilience.
“SYNC is about building a movement,” said founder Kenneth Lo. “When young creatives are supported, they can make meaningful impacts in education, tourism, heritage, and even governance.”
The summit also marked the launch of Creative Hosts, a monthly meetup series co-hosted with the Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCENIC). Set to begin in May 2025, the gatherings will serve as collaborative spaces to share ideas, network, and inform youth-driven creative policy in Sabah.
SYNC’s core focus areas include:
– Advocacy and policy reform for creative rights
– Mentorship and career pathways
– Indigenous knowledge and cultural inclusion
– Climate storytelling and environmental futures
– Support for creative entrepreneurs navigating parenthood
By spotlighting SYNC, the summit amplified a rising generation of changemakers ready to reshape Sabah’s creative landscape through community-led innovation and cross-industry collaboration.
