Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – Following the phenomenal success of their debut single “ORUNTANA”, released on 18 April 2025, Sabah’s rising Ethnic Fusion band TOMPUVAN returns with their highly anticipated second single, “The Last Warrior”, released on 09 May 2025.
Widely praised for their unique sound and cultural depth, TOMPUVAN continues to make waves as musical custodians of Borneo’s ancestral identity. “The Last Warrior” picks up the narrative introduced in ORUNTANA, deepening a powerful tale of heritage, unity, and resistance.
In this latest offering, TOMPUVAN introduces six ancestral warriors, each symbolising one of Borneo’s rich ethnic lineages — Iban, Rungus, Sungai, Kagayan, Tidung, Bajau, and Kadazan Dusun. Tasked with a sacred mission from their ancestors, these warriors fight not with weapons, but with rhythm, melody, and cultural pride, standing as protectors of traditions at risk of vanishing in today’s fast-changing world.
Staying true to their signature Ethnic Fusion style, TOMPUVAN artfully blends traditional Bornean instruments — including the Sekafi, Kulintangan, Bamboo flute, Geduk, and Gong — with modern arrangements, delivering a soundscape that is both grounded in heritage and contemporary in spirit.
The official music video, also launched today on YouTube, features traditional dances, ceremonial attire, and indigenous symbols from ethnic groups across Sabah, including the Murut, Dusun, and Kadazan communities. The release is a timely tribute ahead of the Kaamatan and Gawai festivals, echoing the spirit of unity and cultural celebration across Sabah and Sarawak.
“With ‘The Last Warrior’, we’re not just releasing music — we’re telling a story that belongs to all of us,” said a TOMPUVAN representative. “It’s a call for the youth to reconnect with their roots, and to remind the world that Borneo’s cultural soul is alive and fighting.”
