Mark your calendars for the eagerly anticipated return of the Tropical Rainforest Run at Sabah’s Tawau Hills Park this November! The event, scheduled for November 26, 2023, will offer two captivating race categories: the 21km Tropical Rainforest Trail Run for experienced trail enthusiasts (both Open and Veteran), and the 6km Fun Trail Run for beginners looking for a fun-filled adventure.
Embark on an invigorating 21-kilometre journey along a challenging trail, starting from the picturesque park station and ascending to the stunning heights of Mount Lucia, before returning to the park station, covering elevations of up to 800 metres. Alternatively, the 6-kilometre fun run will take participants from the park station to the intriguing sulphur hot spring and back.
Reflecting the event’s theme, participants will weave through the midst of the world’s tallest tropical tree, the Yellow Meranti Tree (Shorea faguetiana). Tawau Hills Park boasts the distinction of hosting Sabah’s second tallest trees, measuring an impressive 99.2 metres as of 2019. The park is also a habitat for a diverse array of wildlife, including gibbons, red leaf monkeys, and hornbills, further enhancing the allure of the race.
By joining the Tropical Rainforest Run, you will discover more about tropical rainforest conservation while admiring Tawau Hill Park’s remarkable biodiversity. Additionally, in support of wildlife preservation efforts, 10% of the proceeds will be allocated to collaborative wildlife conservation projects with Sabah Parks.
Get ready to tie your shoelaces, embrace the spirit of adventure, and embark on an exhilarating journey through the heart of Tawau Hills Park’s captivating tropical rainforest.
