KOTA KINABALU: Sabahan folk-rock band Tuni Sundatang won the Best in Asia (Asian Folk) award at the 2025 InterContinental Music Awards in Los Angeles, celebrating their efforts to revive Dusun culture through their track Highlanders, Bernama reported.
The awards saw three Malaysian artistes among more than 500 finalists from over 50 countries, with recognition spanning diverse musical genres.
Singer-songwriter and Grammy voting member Heerraa won the Best in North America (Folk) award for her song Love Wins, a collaboration with Nashville-based producer Justine Blazer.
The week also proved memorable for Heerraa, who received the Female Songwriter of the Year (Gold Award – International Category) at the International Singer-Songwriters Association Awards in Atlanta.
Meanwhile, pianist and new age composer Edward Kee secured the Best in Pangea (New Age) award for his composition Rise Up, while other Malaysian finalists included Vincent Yong, Traditopia and Isabelle Wyen-Lam Yong.
