2025 saw a burst of creative content. Apparently in Malaysia, more than 300 hundred new Chinese New Year songs were produced. I was amazed when I read about this last year.
Now to find out that this year – and these are just the ones who joined the Sin Chew CNY song contest, there were 43 submissions! If my math is mathing, Sabah alone produced double the average number of songs among 13 states and 3 federal territories! 14.3% wei. Not sure how many were produced in the Klang Valley. Still though. 43 productions is commendable.
We came across that Sabah Sin Chew Daily is running a contest “Top 10 Most Popular Chinese New Year Songs in Sabah for the Year of the Horse”, with all 43 music videos submitted and ready for viewing and voting.

The judging uses a dual-track scoring system: 50% comes from total video views and 50% will be decided by a specially invited panel of music industry professionals, judging artistic merit, vocal performance, and production quality.
All competition videos are available on the official Sabah Sin Chew Daily Facebook page from now till 31st January.
The much-anticipated award ceremony will take place on 9th February at the official sponsor venue, Hotel N5.
Whether you understand the lyrics or not, music has this magical way of bringing people together. With some songs now sparking dance challenges, appreciation for creativity clearly goes beyond words and straight into rhythm.
