What is MY SUNSHINE About?
At its heart, MY SUNSHINE is a story of intergenerational love. It follows Ankol, an elderly man, and his granddaughter, affectionately called Little Sunshine. When hope arrives in the form of a lottery ticket, Ankol is faced with the ultimate test of luck, love, and loss.
It’s a short film that blends warmth and heartbreak, capturing those unspoken moments between generations that often go unnoticed. Ultimately, it asks: How far would you go for someone you love?
Inspired by Real Life
Though fictional, the story is inspired by true events – stories of grandparents who become caregivers and the silent strength they carry. It reflects the everyday reality of countless families, where love fills the gaps left behind by loss. The inspiration also comes from life’s simple, persistent joys – like singing a lullaby with someone you love.
What Sparked the Story?
Director George Yong shares that the idea was born from witnessing the often-overlooked lives of elderly caregivers. These are people who’ve endured grief yet continue to offer light to the next generation. MY SUNSHINE pays homage to these unseen heroes — those who find purpose in the smallest acts of love and continue believing in hope, even when life grows dim.
When Will It Be Released?
The film is currently in development, with production slated for later this year. Aiming for release in early 2026, the team plans to submit the film to national and international festivals, with a private screening reserved for supporters and collaborators.
